Safe Catch Elite Wild Tuna is Safe Catch's lowest mercury count tuna. They hand pick premium wild tuna, then test each and every one to a mercury limit that is ten times (10x) lower than the FDA action limit. Safe Catch Elite is the only brand of tuna that meets Consumer Reports’ “Low Mercury” criteria set for pregnant women and children. Safe Catch Elite is the official tuna of the American Pregnancy Association. Most canned tuna loses flavor and the majority of Omega 3s due to precooking and machine processing. Safe Catch hand packs premium raw wild tuna steaks to retain all the vital Omega 3 oils and nutrients and then slow cook them to perfection. They don’t add oil, water, fillers, preservatives, or GMO-Soy broth to their tuna. It’s just pure wild tuna. Just empty the pouch into a bowl and mix together so the tuna reabsorbs any natural fish oils. Please do not drain. Safe Catch Elite Wild Tuna is wild and sustainably caught without using FADs or long lines. They are a proud partner of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program. It’s a great choice for athletes, kids & pregnant women! Now in single serving pouches. Take them anywhere! Each 3oz package is ready to eat and makes for a great gift!
Ingredients: Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis)
Safe Catch Elite wild tuna is made with skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) caught in the Western Central Pacific (FAO 71) which are part of the Western Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) skipjack tuna stock. The most recent Western & Central Pacific Fisheries Commission assessment of WCPO skipjack tuna shows populations to be healthy and sustainably fished.
Safe Catch Elite only uses free school skipjack tuna that are caught by purse seine boats without the use of fish aggregating devices (FADs). All the skipjack tuna they purchase must be accompanied by a FAD-Free certificate that states the catch was monitored by an independent observer. Their FAD-Free certification may also include certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
Considering all aspects of environmental sustainability, FAD-Free purse seining of free school skipjack is amongst the best methods for ocean health. During each voyage using this method, boats are able to catch a healthier load, reducing the need for frequent smaller fishing trips. When practiced sustainably, FAD-free purse seining reduces carbon emissions and associated cascading effects of climate change and environmental degradation.
Safe Catch will always provide pure sustainably sourced seafood and help to protect purity in our oceans, lakes, and rivers. Providing seafood from well-managed fisheries using sustainable fishing methods is essential to promoting a healthy ecosystem and to conserve populations for the future.
Their packing methods ensure upmost quality in every can. Safe Catch hand cuts and hand packs pure tuna steaks. They are then slow cooked to perfection with all nutrients retained. Conventional twice cooked tuna is made by putting the fish in large pre-cookers on open racks, machine processing it, and then rehydrating the precooked tuna in the can and cooking it again. As a result, conventional tuna loses many vital Omega 3 oils as the fish precook on racks, and the oils drain away. Machine processing also impairs natural flavor and texture. Their wild pink salmon are also hand cut, hand packed and slow cooked to achieve delicious results with all nutrients retained.
Safe Catch's sustainability policy focuses on protecting the entire marine ecosystem, and they believe sustainable use requires supporting conservation while reducing our environmental impact. They have chosen their catch methods very carefully with a great deal of support from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program. All of their seafood meets Seafood Watch’s high standards for quality and sustainability. They only provide green ranked, “Best Choice”, seafood and select yellow ranked, “Good Choice” seafood. Safe for even our most vulnerable customers, Safe Catch tests each fish to their strict mercury standard, which is published on every package. If it doesn’t meet their published mercury standard, they don’t purchase it. Safe Catch is the only seafood brand with the technology to test every single fish, and they are the only brand that does.
