Ways to Use Nut Butters

Ways to Use Nut Butters

A nut butter is a spreadable foodstuff made by grinding nuts into a paste. The result has a high fat content and can be spread like true butter, but is otherwise unrelated.

Almond and peanut butter may be the most popular nut butters, but don’t underappreciate the power of cashew butter or hazelnut butter. Open your horizon to the variety of nut butters out there to make your life a little tastier.

Yeah, nuts may be high in fat, but not only are they healthy fats, but they also contain a lot of nutritional benefits. They are energy and brain power boosters and can aid in weight loss and helps with memory impairment. So to help you take advantage of the endless possibilities to be creative with your nut butter, I’ve compiled a list of must-try ways to eat nut butter, all which are vegan/vegan-friendly.

The Gift That Keeps Giving
Spread The Love was somewhat of a happy accident. When Val and Zach Fishbain were planning for their wedding back in 2013, they knew they wanted to make something with love for all of their guests. They ultimately settled on making small jars of peanut butter, which they made in our Vitamix blender. It kept over heating and it took them nearly a week to make just 150 jars. Little did they know, the peanut butter ended up being a huge hit and many of their friends and family started placing orders almost immediately. The Fishbains saw this as an opportunity to start a business, and within a few months they had all the paperwork to start selling at the Melrose Place Farmers market. As they say, the rest is the making ;)

What's so Special About Spread The Love® Products?
Spread the Love prioritizes transparency and clean products. Unfortunately, most food manufacturers are more concerned with extending their products' shelf life and cutting corners to save a few dollars. That's not the case with Spread The Love®. Their values are rooted in quality, flavor and nutrition. They believe in small batch production and steering clear of unnecessary food processing practices (i.e. we do not pasteurize our almonds with PPO, which is sadly an industry standard). That's why they don't add salt, palm oil and other unnecessary junk to any of their products. Additionally, Spread the Love is proud to say their Organic Peanut Butter just won Clean Eating Magazine's Clean Choice Award.

1. Throw in Smoothies

Adding in nut butters can amplify protein and healthy fats in a smoothie. Use peanut butter and berries for a nontraditional peanut butter and jelly, almond butter and chocolate protein powder for a chocolate covered almond, or mix macadamia nut butter with pineapple and coconut for a tropical, Hawaiian flavor.

2. Add in Oatmeal

People generally stray away from oats related to the bland flavor in its simplest form. However, oats can be extremely versatile and offer bountiful nutrients and fiber. While warm, mix in a dollop of peanut butter for a creamy, tasty bowl of oats!

3. Top on Pancakes

Say no to large pours of maple syrups and let the richness of nut butter top off your next batch of flapjacks. For optimal nutrients, choose a whole grain pancake or waffle. Get creative with additional toppings such as banana, apple, and honey.

4. Layer Parfaits

Accelerate the flavor of Greek yogurt by layering it with any type of nut butter. Experiment with textures by using a chunky or creamy butter. Kick start the day and let nut butter yogurt embrace all your favorite yogurt toppings!

5. Throw in Chili

Peanut butter in chili...? Do not let the uniqueness throw you off! Adding in a half cup of peanut butter further maximizes not only the richness of chili, but the protein and healthy fats chili is known to provide.

6. Add into Stew

Like chili, nut butters can be added into stews. The next time you prepare your favorite beef stew recipe, enhance the creaminess with a half cup of smooth peanut butter. Bulk with extra veggies for an exceptionally well-rounded dinner abundant in healthy fats, nutrients, and protein.

7. Try Thai

Thai dishes typically highlight peanut sauces. Ordering out, though, may contain a little bit more fat and ingredients than what you may have expected. Other proteins, such as lean beef, can also be swapped for the chicken if desired. Do not be reluctant to add in other favorite veggies!

8. Get Asian-Inspired

Instead of resorting to fried rolls, enjoy light and nutritious spring rolls. Pair with this Asian-inspired peanut butter sauce for ignited flavors! Additionally, sauce compliments fresh veggies such as cucumber, carrot, and bell pepper.

9. Scoop into Cookies

Yes, cookies can fit into a healthy diet!

10. Spread on Toast

For a healthy snack to satisfy the taste buds of all ages, spread nut butters onto bread or toast and add sliced up fruit on top. Apples, bananas, and strawberries all compliment peanut butter. For added protein, mix nut butters with plain Greek yogurt!
