Creamy Kefir Oatmeal: Packed with Probiotics

When it comes to deciding on what to eat for breakfast, it can be difficult since there are so many options out there. Some popular choices would be pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs, etc. These are all popular choices when you go out to breakfast or brunch restaurants. However, a bowl of oatmeal is a great way to pack in a variety of nutrients to kickstart your morning! It's good for your health & doesn't require much preparation time. 

Oatmeal is a whole-grain - a great source of carbs and fiber. It is also an excellent source of phosphorus, magnesium, chromium, zinc and protein. 

In this oatmeal bowl, I added Kefir. Kefir is a cultured milk smoothie - like a drinkable yogurt. Each cup of kefir contains "12 live and active cultures and 15 to 20 billion beneficial CFU (Colony Forming Units).  An 8 oz serving of Lifeway lowfat kefir contains 11 grams of natural protein and also provides 30 percent of your daily calcium needs."

Probiotics are live bacteria that provide health benefits when consumed regularly. It helps support a healthy digestive system and immunity. 

Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
  • 3/4 cup Lifeway Plain Kefir
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 whole Papaya
  • Sprinkle of Cacao Nibs
  • 1/2 Carob Chip Perfect Bar
  • Sprinkle of coconut flakes + sliced almonds
  •  


    Directions:

      1. On the stovetop, cook 1/2 cup oats together with 3/4 cup Lifeway Plain Kefir until creamy.
        1. Place into a bowl with papaya, 1/2 Carob Chip Perfect BarCacao Nibs + other desired toppings of choice! 
        2. Dig into this creamy bowl of goodness!! 

      Fun ideas for your oatmeal bowl:
      1. Add in an egg white while cooking to make the oatmeal more fluffy & increase protein content.
      2. Add a variety of fresh fruit
      3. Sprinkle with nuts for added crunch.
      4. Add a dollop of almond butter for more creaminess. It's perfect when it melts into the oatmeal!
